Wheels Performance has been an amazing authorized dealer of Vossen Wheels for sometime. We recently decided to feature him to share his story and his new Porsche GT4! Known as “Rafic” by us and most of his customers knows him as “Rick” but we both know him as a stand up guy that goes above and beyond for his clients and customers.

We decided to drive to Biscayne Bay to feature Rafic and Wheels Performance.  There we heard the intense passion in his voice regarding his beginnings, his plan and future goals. Its always awesome to hear a fellow car enthusiast be so passionate toward our profession and I’m sure you will feel the same way after watching his video!

His passion has led him to success and Rafic finally decided to reward himself a bit with his dream car, the spectacular Porsche GT4. For months Rafic would come by Vossen and tell us about his search. The GT4 is a tough car to find.  Well good things happen to good, hard working people, because he found this Guards Red beauty locally!!

“A dream come true” according to Rafic, he immediately knew he had to upgrade his wheels. Enter Vossen Forged! Rafic’s GT4 has Satin Black Vossen Forged VPS-315 wheels measuring 20×9 up front, 20×11 in the rear. It also has a lowered suspension on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires. His GT4 looks perfect cruising the streets of Miami.

Porsche’s tradition of bringing arguably the best drivers cars to the market continues with the spectacular GT4. For years rumors of a “GT” Cayman floated around and when it finally came to market last fall Vossen knew it was a vehicle that needed to join the fleet. Naturally we knew we could enhance the looks of the GT4 a bit with our new Vossen Forged LC-Series Wheels. Oh how we had some big plans!

I’ll be quite frank that this blog is quite a bit different than what we initially wanted to feature. When the GT4 debuted we were lucky enough to find one in Jacksonville and Sam drove it down to Miami the weekend the car debuted. From there we planned to make it a huge project car with a build story and modifications galore. It was an exciting car and we had an exciting plan. Obviously that didn’t happen for multiple reasons including various complexities and extreme scheduling conflicts we deal with on a daily basis. However, that doesn’t take away how this is arguably one of the best driving cars around today. PERIOD.

You see that picture above? That ladies and gentlemen is a manual transmission, something of a unicorn in today’s automobile world and it makes all the difference in the world. Porsche has gotten some pretty harsh feedback subjecting its loyal fans to PDK only (mind you a truly brilliant transmission) in their GT3 and GT3 RS cars. The GT4 is manual only and what a sweet manual it is. The touch of the Alacantara to your hand with the slick feeling third pedal is something most cars can only dream of, truly a match made in heaven. As for the driving position, our GT4 has the standard seats and the @itswhitenoise GT4 has the carbon fiber fixed racing seat. Being a larger fellow (6″5, 250lbs) the standard seat is more comfy but the fixed seat is dreamy keeping me in place in every corner possible. My wide hips are usually sore having touched carbon fiber for a few hours but you simply don’t care, pain is good in the GT4.

Three-Hundred and Eighty Five Horsepower at 7400 RPM. Three-Hundred and Ten pounds of peak torque. A Flat-6 engine. RWD. Not huge numbers are they? We are in a world where most people are caught up with bigger and bigger numbers where 400/500/600 now even 700hp is normal for people to point fingers at on the internet. With the GT4 its not about overpowering you. It never scares you, it wants to involve you, it wants you to learn that you can be extremely capable and for you to squeeze every piece of life of out it. This means you shift and shift and shift to ensure you are in the proper gear to get the most out of this mid-engined car. In a bad mood? Go take a GT4 for a spin, its impossible not to grin ear to ear in this car weighing right under 3000lbs. Hell I’m grinning just writing this and thinking of my time in the car!

Powerful 911 sourced Brembo’s front and rear bring the GT4 to a halt with some of the best pedal feel in the business. Brakes continue to be a very overlooked part with many people who modify their cars, Porsche ensures every vehicle they sell stock has boat anchors! The ride with the stock wheels/tires/suspension is very well done, compliant yet willing to wag its tail when you want to. For most they won’t touch this part of the car. At Vossen upgrading wheels is clearly our forte and after much deliberation we decided to install our new LC-104 wheels in a satin gold finish to give our GT4 a one of a kind look.

Measuring 20×9 front and 20×11 rear using the stock size tires 245/35/20 and 285/30/20 we wanted our GT4 to retain much of the stock ride and handling while looking more aggressive and original. The LC-104 really offers the best of both worlds in offering a multi-piece look with all the great racing benefits of a solid forged mono-block wheel. Personally I love how the huge Brembo brake is framed in any LC Series Design. Another observation is I really prefer the Michelin Pilot Super Sports over the Dunlops on the GT4. The Super Sports just offer another level of grip that enhances the feel of the GT4.

The sound from the stock exhaust is intoxicating and it turns it up 2-3 notches when you press the active exhaust button on the center console. The mid-engine Flat 6 behind your head roars quickly as you rev the engine and it never gets tiring, so much so that I never even looked to use the bluetooth on my phone to play music until a few days of driving. For a car enthusiast its all you want to hear windows down or windows up. Speaking of the sound system, its actually pretty good sounding and every button and knob in the GT4 is simple and easy to use.

What else makes the GT4 special? Well how about exterior looks? The GT4 has a more aggressive front air dam with lower chin spoiler, larger side intakes and of course that lovely huge rear wing that helps with downforce and actually holds your drinks well at car meets (I didn’t just say that). Interior room is actually quite healthy even for me as Porsche simply knows how to design a vehicle to the best of its ability. There is also ample trunk room (you can fit a carryon, duffle bag and other items in the deep front trunk and the rear trunk has space for other items as well). It truly is a livable car even though it offers so much fun!

From Brickell to Cars & Coffee the Vossen GT4 has turned heads left and right and been quite the conversation piece. Its a pretty rare car to see let alone one that has been given some new Vossen Forged shoes! It is one of my favorite cars to drive on the road today, it truly feels special, soulful and it seems to become a part of you. Our GT4 experience won’t end here, coming soon we are going to feature our friend Rafic of “Wheels Performance” and his Guards Red GT4 on Vossen Forged. I guess you can say the GT4 has truly become family…..

Zalasin, having raced and collected his share of Porsches and various other exotic and desirable cars over the years, and White, having worked with Mercedes, McLaren, and Speedhunters, to name a few, are no strangers to the automotive community. Together, they’ve traveled the world, driving some of the most prestigious stretches of tarmac in the world. In fact, this very GT3 RS has even seen some time on the Nurburgring!

The weekend after SEMA, our friends at Optima Batteries (@optimabatteries) hosted their annual Ultimate Street Car Invititational (#OUSCI) at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. We’re no strangers to the OUSCI, as our Renntech-built (@renntech) Mercedes-Benz E63 competed in the event last year (photos here).

This year, however, we chased Andrew and the VPS-303-clad GT3 RS around the various challenges that take place as part of Optima’s event. From the speed stop challenge to the full road course, Andrew tore it up in the GT3 RS, competing against a very diverse field of cars, from classic Corvettes to Mitsubishi Evos.

After the OUSCI we ventured off into the Las Vegas desert to spend some much-needed alone time with the Porsche duo. As the sun settled behind the mountains we snapped away, with a whole crew of cameras in full force (thanks again to Cliff (@timeatk) and LightCapturers (@lightcapturers) and Danny Batista (@dannybatista) for the support!). With light dwindling and our bodies running empty, we finally called it a night, a weekend, and yet another successful trip to Las Vegas for SEMA, and that was a wrap for our weekend with Andrew Zalasin (@zalasin) and Elizabeth White (@itswhitenoise) of ITSWHITENOISE!
