Not one, but two VW Sciroccos on Vossen CVT and VLE-1 Wheels popped up at the Vossen UK Owners Meet back at the end of April. The forbidden fruit for us Americans, the third-generation Scirocco is an object of lust and unfair desire, thanks to the higher-ups’ decisions to keep it from the US market. So when the third Scirocco arrived at Prestige Wheel Centre, home of Vossen UK (@vossen_uk), for the meet, it was an overload for my inner VW-loving heart!

Bobby Groom (@bobby_groom), owner of the olive Scirocco on our limited edition VLE-1 wheels, definitely brought out the wildest of the Sciroccos, with a full respray and refinished wheels, brought closer to the body with the help of air suspension.

Also riding on air was Lyndsey’s (@lyndseydubnut) Scirocco R on our directional CVT wheels. Rising Blue Metallic mated with Silver Metallic wheels is the perfect match, appeasing the OEM+ fans as well as hardcore modifiers. Nothing beats a classic color combination!

Not too far from the metropolis that is Guangzhou and nestled in the forest of Foshan, Bruce Lee Paradise Park is a theme park that memorializes the legendary martial artist. With a statue of Bruce Lee towering over the courtyard where we parked the cars, it was safe to say that we’d likely never get to replicate this setting again, so we took advantage of the scene the best we could!

It’s not often that you find yourself in the middle of a massive courtyard, with a 50-foot statue of Bruce Lee watching over, but somehow the F Tech Audi S5 looked right at home. We managed to shoot a handful of other cars around the park, as well as in the inner city area of Guangzhou, with the Canton Tower in the background, as seen behind the A7 on Vossen Forged VPS-302 wheels.

While we got the boot from another location in central Guangzhou, we still managed to make things work before the sun dipped below the horizon.

At the end of 2015 we traveled around the world to visit our friends in China. While we visited many different parts of China and photographed countless cars, Beijing definitely yielded one of the wildest locations: the Olympic Park from the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. With the National Stadium (or Bird’s Nest) in the background and a massive parking lot at our disposal, we got to shooting the group, consisting of two Audi Sportbacks (one A5, one S5, both on Accuair suspension), a Range Rover Sport, and a Vossen favorite, a CLS350 Shooting Brake.

Our local Beijing dealer, U2Works, was kind enough to not only line up some spectacular subject matter, but also haul us around the busy city, shooting cars here and there, and generally experiencing Chinese culture from a firsthand perspective.

What better way to break in a brand new car than with a bang, right? Wrong. When I bought the 2015 VW Golf GTI that you see here back in March of this year, the last thing I anticipated was spending the majority of the summer battling it out with insurance companies. You see, on one fateful day in the middle of May, the day before I planned to make the trek up to Helen, Georgia for Southern Worthersee, my plans of debuting my VW Golf GTI Mk7 on Vossen VLE-1 wheels came to a crashing halt—literally.

While stopped at an intersection waiting for the light to turn green, a Toyota Tacoma attempted to change the fate of my GTI by rear-ending me. Freshly wrapped in metallic brown by our friends at RODWRAPS and straight off the dyno just minutes earlier at USP Motorsports where we were checking APR Tuning’s Stage 1 tune numbers, and with a trunk full of intake and exhaust goodies from AWE Tuning, it all fell apart.

A quick fix en route, consisting of some plexi, rivets, silicon, and Vossen packing tape (and a bit of blood and sweat), kept us on-track and we made it all the way up to Helen for the event, despite the Tacoma’s best efforts! Little did I know, however, that I’d spend the next several months battling it out with insurance companies to get everything resolved, putting more miles on the car whilst wrecked than I did pre-wreck.

My good friend, Clay (DeCaudella’s Custom Paint and Body), worked his magic on the repair and with the addition of some Golf R LED tails from USP and a bit of metal work removing the rear badge, everything was back on the road—only 3 months later, ha!

For nearly a decade I’ve found myself immersed in the VW/Audi community, beginning with a handful of older watercooled VWs. From a Mk2 Jetta Coupe that I built a 16v for to my beloved Passat wagon, a car that I’ve driven through over 40 of the 50 states, I’ve always had a love for VW’s style and, more importantly, enthusiast community. So when the opportunity presented itself to purchase a new car for the first time in my life, it was a no brainer—then I drove the new Mk7 GTI, and it was really a no brainer.

Within days of taking delivery of the car, my H&R Coilovers (@hrspringslp) arrived, and with the help of Danny at Slammered, the GTI was dropped closer to the ground, over Vossen’s limited-edition VLE-1 wheels.

After being neighbors with AWE Tuning at Cult Classic (a VW show organized by Nothing Leaves Stock in Pennsylvania) for a couple years with my other company, More Than More, I knew AWE was the place to go for top-quality intake and exhaust components. I’ve never been a fan of loud exhaust systems, but I wanted to eventually take the car up to APR’s Stage 2 software, the kind gents at AWE Tuning suggested their S-FLO Carbon Intake along with their Performance downpipe and Touring Edition Exhaust. Keep an eye out in the coming months for a more comprehensive review of APR’s Stage 1 and Stage 2 software, along with AWE Tuning’s intake and exhaust systems.

It’s easy to get carried away with the performance of the new Mk7 GTI, especially because the exterior of the car isn’t in your face whilst driving. But outside the car lies my favorite part of this little build so far: the wrap. Since the moment I saw Toffee Brown on a Mk6 Jetta, I was in love. In fact, years ago, before I moved from Washington to the east coast, I hoped to wrap my Passat in this color, but the samples never arrived in time. And because Toffee Brown has never been offered on the Golf/GTI line, I figured there was no better thing to do than finally make my dream come true. Enrique and his team at RODWRAPS made it happen, doing such an exceptional job that nearly as many people asked about the “paint” on my car at SOWO as asked about the wreck!

I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of my GTI, despite the headache that the process has been. And while this summer has been tied up with the cosmetics of the car (thanks again, Clay and Decaudella’s!), I can’t wait to dig deeper and get the car on the track. But above all, I can’t thank the people that have helped along the way enough for the support, so please take a look at what they offer and stay tuned for a more comprehensive look into the various changes I’ve made to this Mk7 Golf GTI!

Our limited edition VLE-1 wheel has taken the Mercedes-Benz crowd by storm since its release. From C Class widebody builds in Japan to bagged E Class builds from Miami, we’re seeing it pop up on quite a few MBs and couldn’t be more excited. This example, owned by @benzbagged, is especially rare due to its air suspension, which really accentuates the directionally aggressive VLE-1 style.

The Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG, in all of its elegance, is quite simply a monster hiding in the clothes of its fellow E-Class businesspeople. Disguised as just another E-Class with only subtle differences that mark it as an AMG, the E55 blends right in. “But once you start it up and the sultry purr of the supercharged 5.4-liter V8 separates the gravel from the tires, you know it’s not your grandmother’s E-Class,” is how my lovely girlfriend (@myimola) described it when I consulted with her. And Tim Walbridge (@503tim), President of 503 Motoring, in Beaverton, Oregon, agrees. This is 503 Motoring’s E55 AMG on Vossen VLE-1 Wheels.

“The E55 is the perfect mating of power, style and comfort,” Tim, confirmed. “At 469hp and with positions for 4 adults it is one of the most understated rocket sedans made, in my opinion,” and that just barely begins to describe it. A 0-60 time of just 4.5 seconds, for a car that can comfortably carry 4 adults, is enticing to say the least! Between the sound of the purpose-built V8 and the the Lysholm supercharger, one can’t help but be weak at the knees. And when Tim passed us on the highway on our way to shoot, it was the sound, alone, that led the way to the location.

Being a native to the Pacific Northwest, Tim saw a perfect opportunity to mix one of his favorite German sedans with some utility and sport, and that’s where Livery Design Gruppe and Whispbar enter the picture. With Tim’s LDG 700c bicycle mounted to the trusty-and-sleek roof rack and fitted with a color-matched (to his VLE-1s) Aerospoke wheel, the otherwise-ordinary E55 has taken on a unique look, suited perfectly to Tim’s interests.

For his other set of wheels, Tim selected our limited-edition VLE-1 wheels in a staggered setup, 20×9 in the front and 20×10.5 in the rear. With color-matched center caps, the VLE-1s look right at home, adding just the right hint of aggression to the supercharged V8-powered E-Class.

When Volkswagen first released photos of the then-called Passat CC, it took the industry by storm. It had been so long since VW stepped out of it’s normal Golf/Jetta/Passat offerings, especially stateside, that anything new would be welcomed with open arms, but for VW fanatics everywhere it was love at first sight. Now having been in production for the better part of a decade and fully-embraced by the VW community, the CC has dropped the “Passat” prefix and stands alone in both its aesthetics and its demand, and Lucas’ (@mintycc) VW CC R-Line on Vossen VLE-1 Wheels is a great example of just how striking the car can be.

With the addition of a basic air suspension kit, Lucas’ CC hovers just a hair off the ground when parked, but can be raised at the click of a button to a safely drivable height or to maneuver over speed bumps—but when parked, it’s a head-turner.

Long and sleek, the CC’s body hugs the ground and a little massaging of the rear arches has made just enough clearance for our 20×10.5 VLE-1 Limited-Edition wheels to tuck in the rear.

With 20×9 VLE-1’s residing in the front, the setup makes for the perfect staggered look…

The BMW 435i has only been out a short time, but that hasn’t stopped countless people from modifying the car in every which way. Take, for example, Danny Conde’s (@danny_condee) bagged BMW 435i on Vossen VLE-1 Wheels. Danny’s car hasn’t even had its first oil service, but it’s now slammed over our gloss graphite limited-edition VLE-1’s—a perfect addition to any white car! With custom components being grafted by our friends at Slammered (@slammered) to get the 435 sitting just right, it’s sure to turn heads everywhere it goes.

The Audi RS4 Avant, to Audi enthusiasts in the USA, is one of the most desirable cars Audi has ever made, no matter the generation. For years, we’ve been taunted by Audi’s RennSport offerings in other countries and regions, but the RS4 Avant (wagon) has never been officially offered in the states, despite much demand. So when you really want something that you can’t have, the only option left is to make it, right? I mean, a guy built a Lamborghini Countach in his basement, so why wouldn’t a bodyshop be able to build an RS4? Stephan Prezzi‘s Audi RS4 Avant on Vossen VLE-1 limited-edition wheels is a prime example of such a feat!

De’ Caudella’s, a shop co-owned by Stephan Prezzi, is responsible for importing the necessary parts to complete the aesthetic transformation, including both bumpers, rear quarters, doors, and front fenders. With a lot of patience and an enormous amount of skill, Stephan and Clay grafted each panel on before respraying the car in Audi’s Merlin Purple.

Under those widened arches sit our limited-edition VLE-1 wheel, in 20×10.5″ sizing on all four corners, tucked nicely with the help of air suspension.

Every time we see another aggressive car sporting the VLE-1 we can’t help but overcome with smiles. And while Prezzi’s RS4 is still a station wagon, it’s a great example of the way a set of wheels can really change the dynamic of a car’s look.

Volkswagen of America has always done a spectacular job of tempting us stateside enthusiasts with great new models, only to never bring them to the USA. From the legendary Rallye Golf to the Amarok, VW has teased us time and time again, but biggest tease of all might just have the be the new VW Scirocco. Like the Golf, but sleeker, sexier, and more stylish, the new Scirocco raised eyebrows around the world when Volkswagen decided to bring back the name—which hadn’t been seen since the 1980s. But alas, VW of America decided against it, and those of us in North America have had to enjoy them vicariously through our European friends, such as Jake’s VW Scirocco on Vossen VLE-1 Limited Edition Wheels.

Much like its retro predecessor, the new Scirocco shares a lot its soul with its respective Golf platform, offering the same 2-litre turbocharged engine and a very, almost identical chassis. But on the outside, it’s an entirely different beast.

While the VW Golf is a more reserved, mass-appealing car, fit for the common commute or the a roadtrip (and as VW advertises, transporting home DIY project materials and sporting goods), the Scirocco is of a different breed. Sharper lines, a more aero-looking profile, and wider hips make the third-gen Scirocco a modifier’s playground, opening the door perfectly for one of our favorite wheels: The VLE-1.

Jake’s Scirocco is unlike a lot of other cars we encounter, however. There’s a lot more to this build than our directional wheels and air suspension, and that’s the true beauty behind the build.

Carbon fiber Porsche GT3 seats, retrimmed in suede with a honeycomb stitch, cradle you nicely, and while you look around the rest of the cabin you find that nearly every panel has been trimmed to match. It’s not just a set of seats swapped into a standard car, here!

Out back you’ll find an insanely-impressive air tank install, with three teal cylinders suspended above the floor. Perfectly-massaged black hard lines route air from compressor-to-tank-to-strut, and sizable subwoofer rounds out the acoustics in the car.

Once on the road, the car really shines. There’s something about the VLE-1 when it’s spinning that we can’t help but adore, and when mixed with the Scirocco, it’s as-if the wheels were made with that specific make and model in mind. But then again, we seem to find ourselves saying that with most of the cars we put them on!
