The Vossen Forged Mercedes-AMG GT S started as a challenge to our engineering and machining team. Since all forged Vossen wheels are manufactured in-house, here in Miami, Florida, and specifically engineered for each car model, it was up to our engineering team to measure the AMG-built car and develop wheels for it in as little time as possible. When I was first shown the GT S, shortly after the order was placed, it took my breath away. I’ve always adored the SLS and Mercedes-Benz’s approach to the front-engine design, where the driver is positioned as far back on the wheelbase as possible, so it came as no surprise that the GT S won my heart immediately. It’s pure sex appeal, in a car. Long, smooth lines, wide hips, an exotic face, and a rear that just makes you want to follow it home—wherever home may be.
Weeks before the Vossen Forged Mercedes-AMG GT S arrived we were mocking up our forged wheel designs, from the Precision Series. The Vossen Forged: Precision Series VPS-306 won almost unanimously, and it was decided. But nothing could be done just yet, as we couldn’t start cutting until we knew the exact measurements of the car’s components. Once the wheels were cut and mocked up, our nearly-unanimous decision was confirmed, and the wheels were sent off to finishing.
After studying the new Vossen Forged Mercedes-AMG GT S, its VPS-306 forged wheels, crafted specifically for the car, and replaying the video shown above over and over, I still find myself struggling to really summarize the car. It’s beautiful and elegant, aggressive and dynamic, and most of all, deliberate. Mercedes-AMG’s vision has never wavered from being described as ‘deliberate’, though, so what makes the new AMG GT S so special? I can’t help but leave that up to Mercedes-AMG, as they so simply stated it:
A groundbreaking vehicle built with one express purpose in mind: the be driven. This car practically demands it.
