When we traveled to Japan in January to attend Tokyo Auto Salon 2015 we had only a rough idea of what to expect. The Japanese tuning world is far different from its North American and European counterparts, particularly in the swiftness with which it evolves.
We teamed up with our Japanese distributor, Mondera Japan, to host a booth and showcase Hamana’s Audi RS6 and Skipper Tuning’s Nissan GTR. While Hamana is broadly known for their amazing widebody Mercedes AMG builds and legendary Audi R8, it was very clear that their interest in Audis and performance styling and tuning knows no ends. While Hamana was representing the German side of the aftermarket, Skipper Tuning was also doing an adequate job in the Japanese market, with their stunning Nissan GTR on custom-finished VFS1 flow formed wheels. Skipper’s GTR is painted in a mesmerizing blue-green metallic—a color that quite simply could not be done justice indoors. Luckily we were able to catch a glimpse of it outside as well, but more on that later!
Throughout the week we managed to make our way around the numerous halls of Tokyo Auto Salon 2015, stumbling upon countless Vossen-clad cars, such as this stunning Mazda 6 shown above, on 20″ VFS1 wheels, one of our personal favorites of the trip!
A supercharged Lexus LS also crossed our path, sitting ever-so-aggresively on 22″ VFS1 wheels.
My personal favorite, however, would have to be our friends at G-Drive Suspensions, with their geared coilovers—which are adjustable while the car is sat on the ground, eliminating the need to jack the car up to adjust its height, a truly revolutionary product that we hope to see more of soon!
All-in-all, we truly enjoy every moment we get to spend in Japan and appreciate the opportunity and hospitality that we receive. While Tokyo Auto Salon 2015 was just another notch in our proverbial belt of worldwide events, it was a great chance to see what’s hot in the Japanese market and spend time with some of our favorite people in the industry. Many thanks go out to Mondera Japan for being such great hosts, we are counting down the days until the next trip!
